Popular Nollywood comic, John Okafor, has accused his
ex-wife of poisoning his one year old son,
Mandela. The actor made this revelation while
recounting the ordeal leading up to his son’s
death by poisoning.
In an interview with Entertainment Express
yesterday, Mr Okafor not only accused his ex-wife
of poisoning Mandela, but also attempting to kill
him.
According to him:
“My ex-wife and her cohorts planned and
kidnapped my wife and child; they were later
released after 10 days. I paid the ransom and
they came home twelve hours later. That child
died a year later through poison. The facts later
came out but I don’t want to act on it now. You
will be surprised the day you hear what really
happened, but I don’t want to go into details
now.”
Extremist Boko Haram sect on
Thursday said it was ready for a
ceasefire and dialogue with the
Federal Government. A Boko
Haram spokesman told journalists
in Maiduguri that the group wanted
discussions held in Saudi Arabia. It
also wants government to pay
compensation for its members
killed by security forces as well as
the release of Boko Haram
supporters in detention, including
women and children, and the
rebuilding of its damaged property.
The group also called for the
prosecution of immediate Borno
State Governor, Modu Sheriff. Boko
Haram said its team would
comprise former head of state,
Maj.-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari
(retd.); Alhaji Shettima Monguno
and others. Responding, President
Goodluck Jonathan in a statement
by his spokesman, Dr. Reuben
Abati, described it as “a welcome
development.” The sect has
claimed responsibility for many
bomb attacks, which have claimed
hundreds of lives and property.

A former
councillor of Amuwo-Odofin
Local Government Area of Lagos
State, Onimole Babatunde, is
currently being detained at the
Area E Police Command, Festac,
Lagos for allegedly stabbing an
18-year-old girl in the neck after
she refused his love advances at
a night club.
On October 26, the teenage girl,
Miss Mariam Abubakar, went to
Pearl Habour Night Club in
Rochester Garden Hotel, Festac
to “catch weekend fun.”
Her friend, who pleaded
anonymity, said they only went
there “to hang out” when
Babatunde, who was obviously
drunk, started to make advances
to Abubakar. “She was not
interested in him so she did not
answer when he called her. He
was dancing and Mariam
(Abubakar) was sitting at a table.
He was obviously drunk and he
came to pull her.
“He was manhandling her and
she insisted he should leave her
alone. This did not go down well
with Babatunde and he was
really angry. He went to a corner,
took a bottle, broke it and
stabbed Mariam in the neck,”
she said.
A source told the Punch that
Babatunde fled the scene
immediately. Miss Mariam bled
profusely at the scene before
she was taken to Naval Hospital,
Ojo by sympathisers at the night
club. Abubakar is currently
under intensive care at the
hospital as she was said to have
lost about 20% of her blood.
However, the hotel has currently
been sealed off by the police
because the management did
not report the incident. The
police also said the night club
workers destroyed evidence at
the scene of the alleged crime by
cleaning up Miss Mariam's blood
on the floor.
A mother and father in Pakistan-administered
Kashmir killed their 15-year-old daughter by
dousing her with acid after seeing her talking to a
young man, police said on Thursday.
Local police officer Tahir Ayub told AFP the father,
Mohammad Zafar, had had suspicions about his
daughter Anvu Sha and became enraged when
he saw her with a boy outside their home on
Monday.
“Zafar beat her up and then poured acid over
her with the help of his wife. She was badly burnt
but they did not take her to hospital until the
next morning, and she died on Wednesday,”
Ayub said.
Doctor Mohammad Jahangir of the state run
Kotli hospital confirmed the death, saying the girl
was brought to hospital in a “very critical
condition” with almost 70 per cent burns.
Anvu Sha’s married elder sister alerted police and
demanded they investigate the incident in Khoi
Ratta district, 140 kilometres north of the state
capital Muzaffarabad.
“The parents have confessed, saying that they
suspected the girl had illicit relations with a boy,”
Ayub said. “We have registered a murder case
against the girl’s father and mother.”
Pakistan is a deeply conservative country, where
women, especially in poor rural areas, enjoy few
rights and protection by the police.
