"Pastors With Private Jets An Embarrassment To Christianity", Says Bishop Kukah-The Nation

The acquisition of private jets
by Christian leaders
diminishes the moral voice
of the church in the fight
against corruption, the
Catholic Bishop of Sokoto
Diocese, Most Rev Matthew
Kukah, declared yesterday.
He spoke against the
backdrop of the presentation
of a private jet to the
National President of the
Christian Association of
Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo
Oritsejafor, by members of
his church during the
celebration of his 40th
anniversary in the ministry
penultimate Saturday.
Kukah, who was guest
speaker at the annual
Founder’s Day Anniversary
lecture of Providence Baptist
Church in Lagos, described
exhibition of such opulence
by church leaders as
embarrassing.
The fiery cleric who spoke on
‘Church and the state in the
pursuit of the common
good’, said: “The stories of
corrupt men and women
being given recognition by
their churches or mosques
as gallant sons and
daughters and the
embarrassing stories of
pastors displaying
conspicuous wealth as we
hear from the purchases of
private jets and so on clearly
diminish our moral voice.”
Kukah, who was represented
by the Administrator of Holy
Cross Cathedral Lagos, Rev.
Monsignor Pascal
Nwaezeapu, also expressed
displeasure with the
perceived closeness of the
CAN leadership to the
corridors of powers.
He said such alliance will
weaken the ability of the
church to speak the truth to
elected public office holders.
According to him: “CAN has
become more visible in
relation to national prayer
sessions, pilgrimages,
alliances with state power
and so on.
“Unless we distance
ourselves, we cannot speak
the truth to power. We
cannot hear the wails of the
poor and the weak. We
should not be seen as
playing the praying wing of
the party in power.”
He challenged the church to
speak against corruption in
low and high places, saying
such responsibility must
never be jettisoned for any
reason.
Apart from Orisejafor, other
church leaders who own
private jets include Founder
of Living Faith Ministries,
Bishop David Oyedepo;
General Overseer of
Redeemed Christian Church
of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch
Adeboye; Founder of The
Redeemed Evangelical
Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike
Okonkwo and Pastor Chris
Oyakhilome of Christ
Embassy Church.

Scores of schoolchildren die in Egypt crash

At least 50 students are killed when a
train slams into their bus in Manfalut
city , state media says.
A speeding train has crashed into a
bus carrying children to their
kindergarten in southern Egypt , killing
at least 50 and wounding 17.
There were about 60 children
between four and six years old on the
bus when the crash occurred on
Saturday as the bus crossed tracks
near a village in Manfaloot district in
the southern province of Assiut.
" There are several deaths and injuries
among the pupils . They are being
counted and taken to hospitals ,"
Mamdouh al -Weshahi , a senior Health
Ministry official, was quoted as saying.
Al Jazeera' s Sherine Tadros , reporting
from Cairo , said: " The severity of the
wreckage was so bad that only 22
bodies or so came out in full and the
rest are in [pieces ]."
" That is why it 's difficult for the
rescuers to operate in the area ," she
said.
Books, school bags and socks
belonging to children were strewn
along the tracks near the mangled
bus. Parents of the missing wailed as
they looked for signs of their children
One witness said the train pushed the
bus along the tracks for nearly a
kilometre.
Two hospital officials said the
wounded were being treated in two
different facilities, many with severed
limbs .
An Egyptian official said it appeared
that the railroad crossing was not
closed as the train sped towards it . He
was speaking on condition of
anonymity because he was not
authorised to talk to the media .
President Mohamed Morsi has
ordered the prime minister , the
ministers of defence and health and
the governor of Assiut " to offer all the
assistance to the families of the
victims ", the MENA news agency said.
Transport Minister Rashad al -Metini
and the head of the Egyptian Railway
Authority have already resigned in the
wake of the accident, state media
reported .
Egypt 's railway system has a poor
safety record , mostly blamed on badly
maintained equipment , poor
management and reckless driving .

Eight Palestinians killed as Israeli
fighter jets hit Hamas government
compounds , tunnels and power
transformers.
Fresh Israeli air raids have killed at
least eight Palestinians in the Gaza
Strip and wounded dozens more ,
medics say , with Palestinian security
sources confirming that at least three
of the dead were Hamas fighters.
Israel on Saturday expanded its fierce
air assault on rocket operations ,
striking Hamas government and
security compounds , tunnels and
electricity transformers after an
unprecedented rocket attack on Friday
aimed at the holy city of Jerusalem
raised the stakes.
The Israeli army said that four of its
soldiers were injured by a rocket fired
from Gaza . Meanwhile , a newly
installed battery of Israel ' s Iron Dome
defence system successfully
intercepted a Gaza rocket aimed at Tel
Aviv on Saturday .
Palestinian medics said 40 Palestinians
have been killed and 345 wounded
since Israel launched the aerial
campaign against the Palestinian
enclave on Wednesday.
In the same period, three Israelis have
been killed and 18 injured , including
10 soldiers.
Since the start of its operation, Israel 's
army said it carried out some 700
airstrikes . It also said that fighters have
fired more than 580 rockets over the
border , 367 of which hit southern
Israel , and 222 of which were
intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-
missile system .
Israeli aircraft have continued
to pound weapons - storage facilities
and underground rocket- launching
sites.

PHOTO: Family Gives Six-Month-Old Girl A Snake To Play With Because They Are Too Poor To Buy Toys For Her

Sidhi Siddharth Sinune crawls behind the python
and shrieks in delight as it weaves through her
tiny legs.
While her parents are away working in the fields
in a rural Indian village in Maharashtra, the baby
girl pats the reptile and even playfully bites its tail.
The non-venomous snake could easily squeeze
Sidhi to death or swallow her whole.
But her father, Siddharth Sinune, said he cannot
afford to buy her toys – instead bringing home
his prey from his job as a snake catcher.
Before putting them back in the forests, he keeps
them at home for his only daughter’s
amusement.
Siddharth said: ‘Sidhi has an unusual bonding
with the snakes and surprisingly they too like to
play with her.
‘Being a poor farmer, I can’t buy her costly toys
but I can get her snakes to play with.

Two sisters assault 22- year-old man and share the video via Blackberry Messenger

A pair of cruel sisters have been
jailed after they subjected a man
described as a “vulnerable adult” to
a degrading sexual assault and sent
photos of the abuse to friends on a
BlackBerry Messenger.
Twisted Yasmine, 19, and Whitney
Notice, 20, lured the man back to
their flat after meeting him over
social media.
After plying the 22-year-old victim
with cider, they threatened him
with a fake handgun, forced him to
strip and demanded he perform
sex acts.
Police were alerted to an image the
day after and specialists from the
Public Protection Unit were able to
track the images to Yasmine’s
phone.
Birmingham Crown Court heard
how the pair sexually humiliated
him purely for their own wicked
amusement.
Yasmine was sentenced to seven
years and two months behind bars,
while Whitney was jailed for five
years and four months.
Detective Constable Emma Fennon
said: “They targeted the man with
the express intention of humiliating
him for their own pleasure. They
even recorded the abuse and
boasted about their actions to
friends.
“In the video the man, who is a
vulnerable adult, can be seen
cowering, fearing for his life, whilst
the girls are heard laughing in the
background.
“We believe this may not have been
the first time they have carried out
such abuse as other images
discovered on their phones suggest
there could be more victims.
“If anyone has suffered such abuse
they should report it to police. The
matter will be dealt with sensitively
by officers specially trained to
support victims.”
Both sisters admitted assault, false
imprisonment, and causing a
person to engage in sexual activity
on February 3 this year.
Whitney also pleaded guilty to
possessing an imitation firearm.
The sisters were ordered to register
as sex offenders for life.

Bishop Ajayi Crowther Translated the Bible In This House

It is the country’s second oldest
storey building. Located in Ota,
Ogun State, the Cathedral
Church of Saint James (CCSJ)
boasts of a history that makes it
comparable to Westminster
Abbey in London. It was here
that Reverend Ajayi Crowther did
the first translation of the Bible
into the Yoruba language.
And what’s more, CCSJ still has
in its possession items that were
used by the very first occupants
of the building back in 1842. The
items include a chalice, a
baptism bowl, two altar chairs,
coins currency and other
historical curios.
The historical, ancient and
monumental items would have
been more, but Reverend Steven
Ayo Oluwawalemi, the cathedral
priest, admits that some
unknown people have made
away with most of these items
that should be national
treasures.

Religious Preacher ‘Beat Daughter, 5, To Death With Whips And Hot Metal’

A five-year-old girl has died after her father – a
‘prominent religious scholar’ – allegedly beat her
to death with ‘whips and hot metal’.
Lamaa died in the intensive care unit of a Riyadh
hospital in Saudi Arabia after months of ‘suffering
from broken arms, [a] skull fracture and head
bruises’.
Al Arabiya news reported that the child was
tortured with ‘whips and electric shocks’ while
Saudi website Emirates 24/7 claims the scholar
and his new wife used ‘sticks and hot metals’ to
beat the girl.
The girl’s mother told the Al Arabiya news
network that the injuries were inflicted by her ex-
husband who she alleged had been abusing her
daughter for eight months.
She claimed he is a ‘prominent religious scholar’
who preaches on satellite TV channels.
Lamaa’s father has been named as Faihan Al
Gameri by news agency EFE.
EFE says Al Gameri is a former drug addict ‘who
won a certain popularity in his country by
appearing on television programs to relate his
story of repentance’.
Speaking shortly after her daughter was admitted
to hospital in April, Lamaa’s mother is said to
have told the Saudi daily Al Youm: ‘I appeal for
the authorities and human rights groups to
support my quest to have my ex-husband and
his wife executed for murdering [my] daughter.’
The National Society for Human Rights in Riyadh
said it has opened an investigation into the
allegations against Lamaa’s father, according to
EFE.

Actress Nkiru Sylvanus loses her appointment as special assistant to Imo State Gov

Linda ikeji published  this story that Nkiru Syvanus appointment as Specal Assistant on Lagos Matter to Governor Rochas Okorocha has being terminated.

Read the complete story...

I heard from very reliable
sources that actress Nkiru
Sylvanus has lost her
appointment as the special
assistant to governor Rochas
Okorocha on Lagos Matters. Yes,
there's a position like that! :-)

The Abia state born actress had
been battling several people
since her appointment last year,
who felt she didn't deserve the
position as a non-Imo state
indigene and also because they
felt the appointment was
meaningless and unnecessary
as they didn't understand her
job specification.
They also felt she got the
appointment because of her
'friendship' with the governor
and not because she knew
anything about running a public
office. These people worked
tirelessly to get her out of
government house, and if what
I'm hearing is correct, they've
succeeded.

NCC bans all telecoms promos and Lotteries with immediate effect

The Nigerian
Communications Commission (NCC) on Monday
warned telecommunications operators against
running lotteries and promotions.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr
Tony Ojobo, the Director, Public Affairs of the
commission in Abuja.
The ban covered approved promotions and
lotteries in which the NCC signed a
Memorandum of understanding with the
National Lottery Regulatory Commission.
The statement said the ban would be in place
until such a time as might be determined by the
commission.
The commission had in recent times been
inundated with several complaints from
consumers and stakeholders against the various
promotions offered by the operators.
It said the commission had evaluated the
complaints received against the backdrop of
sustaining the integrity of the networks and the
general interest of the consumers.
The statement further said that the commission
was mindful of one of its statutory
responsibilities; to protect and promote the
interest of consumers against unfair practices.
It said the promotions had increased the number
of minutes available to subscribers for use within
a limited period of time, thereby, creating
congestion in the networks.
It also said that on-net calls were now being
offered by operators at tariffs well below the
prevailing inter-connect rates, thereby,
introducing anti-competitive practices and
behaviour.
It further said the termination of calls was
becoming difficult between networks, making it
extremely hard for subscribers to make calls
successfully.
It listed the Telecom Operators affected by the
ban as: GLOBACOM, MTN,
INTERCELLULAR,VISAFONE, ETISALAT, AIRTEL and
MULTILINKS.
The commission said it was determined to
ensure that the quality of service offered by the
networks were such that delivered value to the
consumers. [NAN]

Crowds flock to hospital as 'vision' of Virgin Mary appears on window

Crowds of Catholics have flocked to a Malaysian
hospital to to hold a prayer vigil in front of what
they believe to be a vision of the Virgin Mary
which has ‘miraculously’ appeared on one of the
building’s windows.
More than 100 worshippers, some from
hundreds of miles away, have converged on the
Sime Darby Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur after
the vision appeared a few days ago.
The group, who are convinced that the
mysterious mark on the seventh floor window
represents the much revered mother of Jesus
Christ, say that they can also see a second image
of her son two windows away.
Visitors have been lighting candles praying and
singing hymns close to the image which has
gone viral on Facebook.
It has been described by some on the scene as a
‘miracle’.
Father Lawrence Andrew, editor of Malaysian
Catholic newsletter The Herald, said that the
church would need to investigate and verify the
authenticity of the images and ‘the experiences of
the witnesses’.
‘It could be private revelations. We have to make
sure they are not imagined but real apparitions,’
he said.
The hospital have yet to comment on the vision.

Woman Throws Her 5 Month Old Baby Inside Well in Oyo state

A 20-year-old woman, Ganiyat
Salawudeen, is currently in
police custody after she was
arrested for throwing her five-
month-old baby inside a well,
where she was residing in her
mother’s family house at Alagolo
area, Oja Oba, Ibadan
Nigerian tribune reports that,
Ganiyat threw the baby, whose
name was given as Timothy
Odugbemi, into the well at
about 8.30p.m on Monday
November 5, after which she
raised the alarm that she could
not find her baby.
After a search by family
members and neighbours,
which extended till the following
morning, Ganiyat was reported
to have confessed to throwing
the baby inside the well after
much prodding. People were
said to have rushed towards the
well to see if it was true and it
was a shocked crowd which
beheld the still body of the tot
when he was brought out of the
well.
On hearing about the incident,
the Divisional Crime Officer in
charge of Mapo Division, Mr
Bayo Ogundiran, reportedly led
a team of detectives to the scene
and arrested the mother, while
the baby was taken to Adeoyo
Hospital, Yemetu, where he was
confirmed dead. He was
thereafter deposited in the
mortuary for autopsy.
Ganiyat said she could not also
explain what made her throw
her baby in the well, expressing
the belief that forces greater
than her must have
overwhelmed her at that
moment.
Narrating how the incident
occurred, Ganiyat said:
“On that day, I bathed the baby
in the evening, changed his
clothes and we both went to
bed. About 8.30p.m, I rose from
the bed, carried the baby and
took him to the back of my
room window where the well is
situated”.
“A spirit just came over me and
asked me to throw the baby
inside the well. I pushed the
planks on the well aside, threw
the baby inside and covered it
again”.
After some time, I told the
tenant living in the house that I
could not see my baby. He said
he saw me moments before
with the baby. I left my
residence for my parents’ place
at Oniyanrin area and told my
mother that I could not find my
baby but she kept asking me
where I kept the child.
“The following morning, many
people came and were shouting
at me, asking me where I threw
the baby. An elderly man in our
family then came to me, cajoling
me to tell him where the baby
was. Then I told him that the
baby was in the well. While
some people rushed towards
the well, others started beating
me with horsewhip, cane and
different objects. When the baby
was brought out, he was already
dead. A police patrol van came
and I was taken to the police
station.”
Ganiyat, who said she was an
apprentice learning fashion
designing, disclosed that she
was impregnated by one
Kehinde Odugbemi, who was
already married, and that she
delivered the baby on June 4.
She added that the man could
not be traced until the day of
the naming ceremony when he
came in the evening to christen
the child. She said Odugbemi
also came on June 12 to give
her N1,000, adding that that was
the last time she set her eyes on
him.
Ganiyat was said to have given
birth to a boy before the birth of
the deceased baby but could
not get any man to claim the
child. The boy, who is said to be
three years old, is being taken
care of by Ganiyat’s mother.

‘Apostle Of The Most High’ Paraded Naked For Raping 8-Year Old Girl In Lagos

An Ogun State-born ‘cleric,’ George Akinyele, was
almost lynched by an angry mob for allegedly
having carnal knowledge of an 8-year-old girl.
However, Akinyele, who is said to be the
shepherd in charge of one of the branches of a
leading pentecostal church in the Ejigbo area of
Lagos state, did not escape being beaten black
and blue and paraded naked, by the mob.
The victim’s father, known as Baba Akeem
narrated how the unfortunate sexual knowledge
of his little child began: “About a month ago, we
were shocked when our daughter, Elizabeth
complained of virginal pains, saying that she was
sexually abused by ‘Baba’, the name she calls
Akinleye the neighbourhood pastor. Her
descriptions of what transpired between her and
Akinleye showed that she was actually raped.”
The father, who was visibly shocked and enraged,
continued: “Angrily, I confronted the man. He
accepted getting close to my daughter, but
denied raping her; I knew he was lying. I almost
got the Police involved, if not for the advice from
neighbours to allow the sleeping dog lie.
Surprisingly, barely a month later, I came back
home from work, only for my daughter to start
demanding for the type of drug I gave her in the
past when ‘Baba’ abused her. I asked her why
she needs it, but to my shock, she said ‘Baba’
abused her again. That was how I raised the
alarm and took my daughter to the nearest
hospital, for medical examination and possible
treatment. This was after the hospital confirmed
the abuse”, he alleged.
Akinyele who refers to himself as the ‘Apostle of
the Most High’ during his early morning sermons
in he area, defended himself thus: “We both live
in the same environment, and the father is so
close to me that sometimes I ask him for help
which he always rendered. I’m innocent of this
particular accusation-the recent one. The first
time I was accused of raping her, I had gone to
their house where I met the little girl working on
her school assignment. I offered to help her with
the assignment which she gave me and I later
returned it to her. I don’t know why nobody
believed me, I didn’t have sex with that girl”, he
exonerated himself.
“This time around, she is saying that I ‘double
crossed’ her at Somonu Animashaun Street and
had sex with her again. How could I have done
that? I wasn’t even at that area at the said time of
the rape. Before God and man, I didn’t do
anything to her this second time that I’m being
accused.”
However following several threats, the preacher
eventually admitted committing the ‘unholy act’
with the infant girl once.
Confirming Elizabeth’s rape, the resident doctor
of the hospital where she was treated disclosed
that, “she was brought here by her father and I
can confirm she is okay now. I’m just appalled by
how the accused man was treated. If care was
not taken, he could have been lynched. I’m
against jungle justice no matter the level of crime
committed”, the doctor added.
If not for the timely arrival of policemen attached
to the Ejigbo police station, the alleged child
rapist could have been lynched after the mob
heard him admit to the heinous and dastardly
act.
The doctor however disclosed that due to the
victim’s twin ailments of ulcer and diabetes, he
couldn’t be detained for long and was
subsequently released by the police on medical
grounds.

A Man Can Cheat; But If My Woman Cheat On Me She's Going –The Game

Do you agree with him?

The truth is every man cheats.
Fat men, skinny men, basketball

"You’ll be better off that way....
But I would never understand if
a woman cheats. You know the
balance. It would be over with.
That’s how it goes."

Popular rapper, The Game stated
this during a radio interview to
promote his upcoming reality

Photo: Woman Burnt By Husband Recovers; Gets Financial Assistance

The woman who was severely
burnt with a hot pressing iron by
her husband early this year, Mrs
Mercy Nnadi, has been fully
rehabilitated by three non-
governmental organisations.
The three NGOs came together
to set up an appeal fund, to help
Mercy after the incident. They
drew the attention of the Lagos
State Government to the case,
and the government, through
the Ministry of Women Affairs
and Poverty Alleviation,
immediately swung into action.
The campaign resulted in the
ministry helping to offset Mercy’s
medical bills substantially. The
ministry paid the sum of
N830,000; took Mercy away from
the private hospital she was at
Okota; and got her admitted into
Lagos State University Teaching
Hospital, Ikeja.
After she was discharged, Mercy
was taken to the state
government-owned shelter for
abused women and young girls.
The groups also raised money
for Mercy, which they used to get
her a furnished one-room
apartment. Besides, they also
gave her a cheque of N150, 000
to enable her to start a small-
scale business.
Mercy, who was grateful for the
kind gesture, thanked God for
restoring her health. She said
although she had lost her only
child, her ordeal was for a
reason and she would use her
experience to touch the lives of
abused women.
“I never believed I would be alive
and well. I’m still very sad over
the death of my son but I believe
God has a purpose for me. If I
ever see a woman being abused,
I will counsel her,” she said.
