People who walk a lot have lower diabetes risk – study

Among people at high risk of diabetes are people who get very little exercise, according to U.S study.
The study also showed that those who manage to walk more throughout the day are less likely to actually develop the blood sugar disorder.
Earlier studies have shown that walking more is tied to a lower risk of diabetes, but few studies have looked into precise measures of how many steps people take each
day, said Amanda Fretts, lead author of the study and a researcher at the University of Washington in Seattle.
“Our finding wasn’t surprising given that other studies have shown that even light activity is associated with a lower risk of diabetes,”Fretts wrote in an email to Reuters Health.
To get a better sense of the potential benefits of walking, Fretts and her colleagues asked more than 1,800 people to wear a pedometer for a week to tally the number of steps they typically took each day.
All of them came from native American communities in Arizona, Oklahoma and North and South Dakota that are known to have low physical activity levels and high rates of diabetes.
About a quarter of the group were considered to have very low activity, taking fewer than 3,500 steps a day, while half took fewer than 7,800 steps a day.
One mile is around 2,000 steps and daily walking recommendations typically point to a minimum of 10,000 steps a day.
At the beginning of the study, none of the participants had diabetes.
But after five years of follow-up, 243 people had the condition.
About 17 per cent of the people in the lowest activity group developed diabetes, compared to 12 per cent of the people who took more than 3,500 steps a day.
After taking into account people’s age, whether they smoked and other diabetes risk factors, Fretts’s team determined that people who walked the most were 29 per cent less likely to develop diabetes than those who walked the least.
The findings don’t prove that walking more is responsible for the lower diabetes risk, but Fretts offered some possible explanations for how walking might help.
“Increased physical activity may prevent weight gain and promote weight loss, a major determinant of diabetes risk,”she said.
Physical activity also has effects on inflammation, glucose and other molecules in the body that could help lower diabetes risk.
But she added that the potential benefits of moderate levels of walking are “only for those who are really inactive to begin with.”

SHOCKER- OPEN CONFESSION: I Sacrificed My Manhood For Money

"Before I joined the church of Satan, I sacrificed a baby, I drank blood and so many other things, which I shouldn’t have done. I also sold myself to the devil for fifty years.”

This confession summed up the story of a 29 year old businessman who in his quest to be rich joined four occult groups where he committed the worst of abominations.

At 21, Steven Kofi (not real name) from West coast in Ghana, began his journey into the occult world by joining the church of Satan international before going deeper to join others such as the score and bone cult, region of doom and free mercy debunked all in his bid to make wealth.

A once vibrant man with wife and a child along with a prospering oil business had to abdicate his matrimonial responsibility to his wife for eight (8) years after sacrificing his manhood as a condition for wealth.

Faced with the threat of death after being given a 49 day ultimatum to live, the Ghanaian ran after God and recently got a relief in Lagos during the Lord’s Chosen Church programme, “Time To Recover All” where Saturday Sun had an encounter with him.

How did he join such groups at an early stage in life? “The story started in my final year at the university of Ghana, I was studying oil and gas engineering, I got my master degree in oil and gas engineering. At the final year, things were so tough for me that I needed to finish my education, but there was no way to get financial help, at the end of the day I consulted my parents but it was fruitless”, he stated.

According to him,“usually I chat with somebody on the internet that helps me with money. He is a man and that was before I later got married to a Norwegian lady in 2003. We had a kid before she travelled, but she usually call me on phone once in while, at that time, I called her for financial help but she didn’t have any cash.”

He said the person who used to assist him complained that he could not continue sending money to him, and as such, he has to fend for himself. “He told me that he cannot continue sending me money. He said I have to work for myself, and I asked him, how, he said you have to do it on your own”, he stated adding that from that point he decided to locate the church of Satan in Ghana where he was told that his initiation would be done in far away Califonia, USA. In deed, travel documents were prepared for him and he travelled to ground Lodge at Early Noise in Califonia where his initiation took place.

He said after the initiation process, he demanded to see the devil, and was asked to write a request letter to the devil which he did. His request was granted within two weeks, and he was able to meet face to face with the devil who asked him to make three wishes, adding that his third wish for long life could not be granted because church members only live within the space of thirty years after joining the church of Satan.

“The devil demanded that I make three wishes from him, which I consented to, that I want to be famous, wealthy and live long, but the third one he refused to grant, disagreeing to the idea that any one that joins the church of Satan will always live for thirty years, once you join at 20, you live till 50. This I agreed to because I was eager for money”, Kofi stressed.

He further disclosed that after joining the church of Satan, Satanic Bible was made available to him, sword of slaughter, initiation glove, Suit and other items. He however explained that he didn’t lose his manhood until he added another feather to his cap in the occult world by joining yet another group. “When I joined the Score and bone society, that’s when I sacrificed my manhood to increase my wealth”, he added.

Beside the monetary gains from the cults, he was also sent on an assignment which is to win souls for the kingdom of Satan. Through this, he has won more than 23 souls for Satan, using the advantage of the wealth he was given. “Boys and girls who are eager for money, wealth, I show them the way. I have offices in Port-Harcourt, Warri, Abuja, Ghana, I give them what to do and they begin to make money on their own and also teach them how to join and I send them over”, he added.

How did this bring joy to his parents? Kofi said after making money, he decided to open a plaza for his mother in Ghana, but she rejected the offer, claiming that it was a blood money, because of her attachment to Christ and a vision she saw in which she saw the source of his wealth. But his father and siblings accepted him.

His trouble however started after he became uncomfortable with his life. At that point, he began to look for powerful pastors that could save his life. When his cults discovered he was going astray, he was penalized and given only 49 days to live. “I was given 49 days to live, I have spent 19 days, and it remains 30 days, before deliverance came to me through Pastor Mouka of the Lord’s Chosen”, he stated.

Having learnt some bitter lessons, Kofi is advising youths not to covet what others have while urging parents to restrict what their children watch on television screens. On his manhood that was restored during the deliverance session, Kofi said “I give God all the glory that my manhood was restored back, am happy now that I can make more babies again.”

2 Members Of A Royal Family Arrested For Armed Robbery

Two members of one of the ruling royal families in Ogun State said to be dangerous armed robbers met their waterloo on Sunday when men of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, in Ogun State intercepted them with a blood-stained jeep that was robbed in Lagos.

Nemesis caught up with the duo, identified as Ademola Adeniyi and Ajayi Adesina, after they were said to have offered the sum of N500,000 to the customs officers to evade arrest shortly after a robbery operation at 5am. Their attempts were however rebuffed by the men of the Customs who insisted that they must face the music.

The Comptroller of Customs in the state, Akande Bamidele who paraded the suspects before handing them over to police said Adesina was initially arrested with Acura MDX Jeep with no number plate and later his colleague in crime, Ademola, was also nabbed with one Passat marked, Abuja KWL 560 AA, in Ewekoro, Ogun State.

Addressing newsmen shortly before the display of 406 cartons of frozen poultry products worth three million naira, the comptroller said Ajayi was initially arrested with the blood-stained Acura and he later called his alleged ring leader, Ademola on phone to rescue him.

The Customs boss further disclosed that the second suspect, Ademola later arrived the scene and offered the custom officers bribe to release Adesina. According to him, the suspects who were later handed over to the police in the state made confessional statements confirming that they rob at gun point at Bariga in Lagos that Sunday.

While receiving the suspects on behalf of the police state command, the Head of Ogun Police Command state Criminal Investigations Department, Mr. Fola Ogunkoya promised to investigate the case and subsequently charge them to court.

NIGERIA IS HEADING FOR BREAK UP –Bishop Oyedepo

“I want to believe that what we have on our hands today is an islamisiation agenda being propagated and sponsored by some religious bigots who are poised for war, and if government does not decisively stem down this tide, Nigeria may cease to be a nation.”

The Chancellor of Covenant University, Bishop David Oyedepo, has called for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria's security apparatus with a view to check mating the wicked acticvities of those he called ‘religious bigots’ scheming to Islamise Nigeria through repeated attacks on churches.
Oyedepo also urged the Federal Government to be more committed to the insecurity problem, failure of which he noted, may lead to disintegration.

In his address titled - Towards the rescue of a nation on the brink of collapse: Necessity for a new generation of thinkers - delivered at the seventh convocation of Covenant University on Friday, Oyedepo said consistent attacks by Boko Haram leaves much suspicion in its trail.

He noted that if Boko Haram members are agitating for their rights as they claim, government institutions rather that churches should have been their targets. “Now let us think: If Boko Haram, as claimed by some of their symphatisers, is fighting the government for its rights, the question is, is it the church that is depriving them of such rights? If the bombs in the North are just reactions to class oppression or poverty in the nation, why are mosques exempted from bombs?

He continued: “Did the militants in the South South, during their struggle, ever attacked worshippers in the mosque on Fridays? A lot of political hypocrisy must be going on here.

“Are there no Muslins in the West, South and East of Nigeria? Why are they not shooting at people in churches who gather for worship? Why are they not throwing bombs at Christians? I believe some individuals are simply without any other mission other than breaking Nigeria.”

He said insecurity today remains the nation’s greatest albatross, dwarfing other national malaise like poverty, corruption, unemployment, among others.

“Until we solve the security problems, we may not solve the economic problems. If you kill for the sake of conversion, can that dead man be convertible? Rather, you have lost a God-like asset for your nation and lost an opportunity to live a better life," he said.

Footballer Samuel Eto'o accused of tax evasion in Spain, risks jail term

A Spanish public prosecutor has accused Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o of conspiring to evade 3.5 million euros in taxes owed on income from his image rights when he was playing for Barcelona between 2006-2009.

The former Barca and Inter Milan player, now with Russian Premier League club Anzhi Makhachkala, is accused of four tax offences, each punishable with up to five years in prison and a fine of as much as 21 million euros.

The case presented by the prosecutor on June 15 at a Barcelona court, and which was seen by Reuters on Thursday, asks a judge to open proceedings against the player before the statute of limitations on one of the alleged offences expires on Saturday.

Spain recently launched a drive against tax evasion as it struggles to meet tough European deficit reduction targets that have meant budget cuts for hospitals and schools.

Eto'o allegedly created two companies, one in Hungary and another in Spain, and used them to channel income obtained from ceding his image rights to Barca and sportswear maker Puma, the prosecutor said.
The Hungarian company paid one of the lowest corporate tax rates in Europe - 10 percent to 19 percent - while the Spanish company paid a reduced corporate tax rate of 30 percent to 35 percent, instead of the 45 percent income tax rate, the charge said.

Eto'o also allegedly used the Spanish company to deduct personal expenses, such as payments for his mortgages, furniture and expenses related to his luxury cars, the complaint added.

Eto'o and his club could not immediately be reached for comment. The prosecutor also accused Eto'o's former agent, Jose Maria Mesalles, and the manager of the Spanish company, Manuel de Jesus Lastre, of the same tax offences.

Eto'o filed a lawsuit against Mesalles at a Barcelona court last year, accusing him of betraying his trust and of embezzling money, local media said.

Eto'o and his club are yet to respond to the allegations.

DJ Tee alleged assault: My side of the story - Alvin Osungade

A mail I got from the the upcoming act who claimed he was stabbed by top video director, DJ Tee, at a video shoot yesterday. This is his own side of the story...(heard the police is now involved)
My name is Tolani Alvin Osungade, and this is what really happened between Dj Tee and I...... Firstly, the video shoot was suppose to start @ 10am and I was there to support my friend "malcoholic" the owner of the video shoot. He (malcoholic) told to me invite friends (video girls and guys) which I did. The video shoot did not start early because it rained and the location was being cleaned. And due to the fact that the shoot didn't start on time, people were having refreshments, guys were drinking (including dj tee and his crew). As this was going on, comments were going round that dj tee just insulted some girls I don't know due to them asking for payment to be in the video and i also heard dj tee was going to call his own people to come and replace them.

Finally, my friends came by 5:30pm, and when they came and saw the set up they made their thoughts known to me that they don't do videos for free but they were being insulted by some guys I don't know myself but there was no fight and I did my best to calm them down and they decided to stay. My brother (Dolapo) came by 6pm with his friend, and Dolapo immediately made it clear to me that he didnt like the set up (the environment) as well and was going to leave in a bit. But I told him to stay just to support Malcoholic and he said "the only reason he's staying was because of me", and my invited friends also said the same thing because they were all tired of waiting and the video shoot had still not started since 1pm. Finally, the shoot started @ 7:30 and dj tee started calling people to come on set but there was little response due to people being tired from waiting all day then Dj started getting aggressive, his voice was getting louder, I was actually part of the first 5 to go on set and my brother (Dolapo) came along with me without his friend making us 6, few mins later, almost everybody joined. Some minutes later, I saw dolapo's friend walking away and I asked her where she was going and she only pointed at dj tee and she said he just insulted her and she was leaving, while this was going on, dj tee was lashing out at the people that were not on set yet, in his words "get these bitches out, get these bitches downstairs", Dolapo's friend was leaving the set then dj tee asked her what was wrong?

Sincerely speaking, I didn't hear her response but dj tee was speaking loud so I heard him say "bitch" and people went there to find out what the problem was. I didnt go with them because I was still on set and Kaffy (the dancer) was already coordinating us but I was looking towards that direction. Then I started hearing noise like a fight was going on and people were saying "dj tee leave him" and I also heard "Dolapo go" then I knew it was dj tee and my brother , then I went there. On getting there, the stairs was blocked and I could not see him and just wanted to get there to be sure he was ok and get him out because dj tee was saying "awon eruku mi da" in english "where are my thugs" "don't let him go, he must not leave this place alive" because he claimed dolapo slapped him so he was saying "do you know who I am, how dare you" and he kept on ranting "I'll kill you" "don't let him go, he must not leave here alive" while dj tee was trying to get to him in person. My sister was begging him and telling him "dj tee, he's my brother, please leave him" and to get his attention, she threw an empty fanta can drink at dj tee then he and his boys looked but paid her no attention.

I struggled my way out finally and I saw Dolapo practically running out and dj tee was chasing him and he instructed them to lock the gate and he then said to his boys "efo igo nibeyen, gbogbo igo ti eba ri, efo, ki e gun" in english "break bottles, find him and stab him" and his boys did as instructed and asked for permission to kill him (Dolapo) and dj tee said "yes, stab him". Dj tee found him, tried to beat him but he was being held back, then he saw a bottle on the floor, picked up and broke it, dolapo's female friend saw this and she went to plead with him and he pushed her into a gutter and looked away and was trying to go back to Dolapo with the broken bottle then I started pleading with him and he was shooting me dirty looks and he was saying "ti iwo oba kuro ni waju mi, ma te oju e mole" in english (get out of my way before I hurt you) .Still trying attack Dolapo, I still pleaded with him, then he stabbed my head and just walked away like it was nothing. Soaked in blood, I was still looking for Dolapo but didnt know he had been informed to run because dj tee had broken a bottle and was still looking for him. My sister saw me bleeding and she tried getting me out of the place with help of mr Dele (owner of d location).

As we we're running out, dj tee and his boys were still coming after us with sticks and bottles and dj tee was still saying "kill him don't let him go". We got to the gate and it was locked so they caught up with us, seeing that I was already bleeding, I was ignored and dj tee and his boys then faced my sister (Bolaji) and beat her up. She was pleading and still getting beaten and threatened added that "if she is asked about the incident, she should say I fell on a bottle"Then the mr Dele (owner of the venue) ordered the gatement to open the gate because I had to be rushed to a hospital then we were let out. Dj tee and his boys vandalized a family friends car who came to support as well because he was also pleading with dj tee and his boys to let Dolapo go. I remember dj tee saying "I will kill you, I can do this and get away with it, you are too small to me, do you know who I am in this industry"...

In addition, I am not looking for cheap publicity neither am i trying to slander anybody's name or image, I am from a very respectable home and background and this is known to all. This is just very painful because people are saying all sorts and nobody has an idea of what i'm going through, I've been scared for life whether Dj Tee gets punished for this crime or not, I am not after a pity party but the fact that Dj Tee thinks that he is untouchable and can get away with this is why my family is enraged and will make sure this ends here, and quoting what i wrote on my twitter page earlier "I've never been aggressive about anything in my life and neither do I cause trouble, @adetokunbodjtee, you took advantage of my youth, justice will be done" I'm deeply disappointed if this is how someone who calls himself a public figure acts or treats the public.

Criminal Act: How Male Lover forces 2 boys to rape girlfriend -Victim dies during abortion

.

A 15-year-old girl, Rabi Ziki, got pregnant after being raped by two boys. Ironically, the rape was allegedly masterminded by her boyfriend, Maina
Abu (not real name) who commissioned the boys to perform the criminal act in his presence. Abu had accused Rabi of stealing his perfume and cloth. However, few months after the unfortunate incident, Rabi became pregnant and she made up her mind to get rid of the pregnancy. But this resulted in a tragedy, as she lost her life. The incident happened in December 2011.

The deceased and Abu had been dating for quite sometime. On the fateful day, Abu allegedly invited Rabi to his house and locked her inside his room. He also tricked the two boys involved in the saga to his house and ordered them to rape Rabi in his presence.  They had refused to rape her since they knew she was his girlfriend. But Abu threatened them with a broken bottle and vowed to kill them if they refused. He was said to be heavily drunk. He pounced on Rabi and gave her a serious beating. The boys eventually raped her.

Few months after she was raped Rabi became pregnant. As a result of the pregnancy she became worried. How she would explain to her parents that two boys impregnated her. Rather than open up, she was said to have made up her mind and quietly went to a private hospital to get rid of the four-month pregnancy.  Shortly after she aborted the pregnancy, Rabi became critically ill, complaining of headache, body and stomach pains. When the illness grew worse and doctors could not help, Rabi reportedly confessed to her uncle and guardian.

She was later rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State, and admitted at the emergency unit. But efforts of doctors at the hospital to save her life proved abortive as she eventually gave up the ghost on Monday, May 28, 2012.  She was admitted on Friday, May 25. Daily Sun gathered that before Rabi breathed her last, she told her guardian everything that happened. She was said to have denied the rumour that she was going out with Abu, though she said Abu made moves to go out with her but she never agreed.

She was said to have told her guardian that Abu called her telephone line on the day of the incident and asked her to wait in front of his house before she was raped. According to her, one of the boys removed her pant before the two raped her one after the other. Rabi added that though Abu did not have sex with her, he made sure that she was raped by the two boys.

One of the boys, a Senior Secondary School student, confessed: “I didn’t know Rabi before the incident. We were with a guy at Sabo, Ibadan when Abu called around 8.00pm and asked us to follow him. He told us he wanted to send us on an errand. He never told us what he wanted to send us.  “He had called Rabi and after he had smoked Indian hemp, he came out and he slapped her twice and asked her to follow him. We followed him with Rabi. She never argued with him, he told Rabi to enter the room with us and he locked the door.”

According to him, Abu brought out a bottle and drank all the content in it and thereafter started beating Rabi. He then broke a bottle and ordered Rabi to remove her cloth. Rabi, according to him was not wearing anything except her Jalaamia and a scarf: “We were forced to have sex with her. Abu is older than us; he should be around 25 years or more. He told us the following day why he did that to us. He said Rabi stole his clothe and perfume and that was why he made sure we raped her.

“With my friend, we went to the girl to ask if she actually stole the perfume, but she said she didn’t. We begged her and she said she had forgiven us. It was later confirmed that one of Abu’s girlfriends who had the key to his room stole the cloth and perfume.”

Rabi’s uncle reported the incident at the Mokola police station. While the two boys were arrested, Abu was nowhere to be found. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olabisi Ilobanafor, said investigation has commenced and that the two boys would soon be charged to court.

The fraud case against Jim Iyke was not thrown out of court - Habiba's camp claim

Dear Linda,

Our notice has been drawn to an article published on your blog and other media and we have been mandated to put the facts straight.

We would like to say categorically that the accused (Mr. Jim Iyke) confessed to all the charges that were brought against him which said charges includes criminal breach of trust, assault, criminal force, cheating, criminal misappropriation and obtaining by tricks etc.

Pursuant to his confession and guilty plea, the accused ( Mr. Jim Iyke) would have been sent to jail but for the magnanimity of the victim, Mrs Abubakar who, after listening to all the pleading from Jim's family that he was their bread winner, decided to temper justice with mercy.

As it was not the interest of the victim to ruin his career nor cause his family unnecessary pain, the moral decision was taking to withdraw the case on the condition that he will refund all the money he fraudulently obtained.

At the instance of our client, the case was only discharged for amicable settlement (and not thrown out) and the accused was not in any way acquitted.

We expect that Mr. Jim Iyke will concentrate on finding ways of fulfilling the debt repayment agreement signed by him rather than the unnecessary show of braggadocio and deliberate misinformation, as the agreement clearly states that should he default on two consecutive installment payments, the case will be re-opened, all waivers suspended, and the law will take its cause.

He remains liable and must desist from bringing the court, the law enforcement officers and all parties involved to disrepute or the full wrath of the law will be brought upon him.

Please find attached evidence and documentation in respect of the above.

Thank you for setting the records straight.

Nigeria’s life expectancy lowest in West Africa – Don

Read and tell us what you think....

Life expectancy in Nigeria is now 47 years, making it the lowest among west African countries, Prof. Abdulsalam Nasidi, Project Director, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has said.
He said this in
Gusau on Thursday at the commencement of the second Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the state’s chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
Nasidi who stated this in a paper with the theme “Lead Poisoning: Zamfara Experience” said this position was 30 per cent below the world’s average life expectancy.
He said it was a situation that was attributable to some health factors, including child and maternal mortality, spread of polio virus and other epidemics.
“One out of every five children die before the age of five years due to polio and other infections.
“Nigeria is one of four countries where polio is still an on-going epidemic,” the Project Director said.
Nasidi said in Zamfara alone, acute lead poisoning had killed more than 400 children and caused brain damage in several others in Anka and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas.
He described lead poisoning in the area as the “worst-ever recorded outbreak of its kind in modern times.’’
The Project Director said mass lead poisoning and massive cholera epidemics were tragedies of the 19th century.
“This outbreak and our inability to interrupt polio virus transmission are serious indicators of the state of public health service in Nigeria,” he said.
Nasidi said a survey carried out in the affected areas of Zamfara in November 2010 had revealed that more than 85 per cent of the soil had lead contamination.
He said its spread was aggravated through heavy rainfalls.
Nasidi said blood samples of infected persons exceeded the US Environmental Protection Agency rate by three folds while some blood samples were as high as 100,000 parts per million.
He lamented that in spite of response measures through the collaborative efforts of the state and federal governments, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), illegal mining resumed in the area.
The Project Director said this occurred at Dogon Dajin Sarkin Noma village of Adabka ward in Bukkuyum local government area, killing 11 out of every 22 persons since September 2011.
He therefore urged the federal and Zamfara governments to continue to join hands in order to save lives of the people living in the area.
Nasidi suggested that government should consider moving the population from the high risk areas as part of the remediation efforts on the affected areas.
Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha, the state’s acting governor, while declaring the conference open, had earlier urged the participants to come up with an acceptable framework to tackle environmental degradation in the state.
The acting governor assured of the state government’s readiness to partner with other agencies and foreign bodies in finding lasting solutions to the problems of illegal mining in the area.
The state chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr Kabir Sada, commended the state government in ensuring the comfort of medical practitioners in the state.
“This had included the payment of all improved doctors’ salaries and other benefits,’’ he said.
The association gave an award of “Health Friendly Governor” to the state governor in view of his successes in the health sector.

Tragedy Averted: As 300 passengers escape death as train derails

What could have been another national disaster in the country was averted on Wednesday as Over three hundred passengers on Wednesday night escaped death when a 12-coach Lagos-bound train rammed into a Nissan Cabstar pick-up at Odo-Eran, Lafenwa area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The collision, which occurred at 9am, saved the
train from plunging into a gully created by flood which had washed away part of the rail track.
The flood, which was caused by the heavy rain in the state capital, had swept away the sand under the rail track. The collision also prevented the train from reaching the damaged rail track.

Ex-Governor Ibori’s Girlfriend Released From Prison

Ms Udoamaka Okoronkwo, the mistress of former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, has regained her freedom after serving her jail-term in a United Kingdom Prison.

Udoamaka, who was tried alongside Ibori’s sister, Christine Ibori-Ibie, was found guilty of money laundering and mortgage fraud and was sentenced to five years by Judge Christopher Hardy of a Southwark London Crown Court on June 7, 2010.

The two women were accused and subsequently convicted of handling proceeds of criminal transactions on behalf of Ibori while he was governor of Delta State.

The court however ordered that their sentences be served concurrently and Okoronkwo-Onuigbo has thus completed her term in prison. The ex-convict has since returned to Nigeria and was seen in Abuja recently.

Ibori is presently in a UK prison where he is serving a 13-year jail term.

Court Of Appeals Orders EFCC To Retry Kenny Martins And Three Others For N 7.7Bn Police Equipment Fraud

Kenny Martins
By Wilson Uwujaren Ag. Head, Media & Publicity Unit
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has ordered the retrial of Chief Kenny Martins and three others in respect of the embezzlement of Seven Billion, Seven Hundred and Forty Million Naira (N7,740,000,000.00) belonging to the Police Equipment Fund.
In a well-considered judgment delivered by Justice Regina Nwodo, JCA, Leading two other justices on Thursday June 28, 2012, the appellate court among other issues, held that the four accused persons have a case to answer and that Justice Mohammed Talba of the FCT High Court misdirected himself and was wrong to have discharged the accused persons on a no-case submission.
The Appeal arose from a criminal charge preferred by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Chief Kenny Martins, Ibrahim Dumuje, Yaro Gella and Nigerstalg Limited.
After the trial at the High Court, the accused persons were discharged on a no-case submission. However, dissatisfied with the ruling, the EFCC filed an appeal.
On the issue of bias, on which basis an Abuja Magistrate court and a Federal High Court, Abuja had disqualified prosecution counsel, Festus Keyamo from prosecuting the accused persons, on the grounds that he had written several petitions against the accused persons in the past, the Court of Appeal held that a prosecutor cannot be disqualified from prosecuting a matter based on allegations of bias.
The court ordered that the case file be remitted to the Chief Judge of FCT for reassignment and re-trial of the accused persons.

Otedola Gave Me Money Not Bribe –Farouk Lawan

Details of the testimonies of the suspended Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Monitoring of Subsidy Regime, Mr. Farouk Lawan, showed that he admitted taking “money” and “not a bribe” from oil businessman, Mr. Femi Otedola.

Findings indicated that the panel grilled the former Chairman, House Committee on Education for over fours hours, starting from 1.07pm.
It was gathered that during the investigation, Lawan tried to draw a distinction between money and bribe. He was said to have insisted he took the money with the aim of exposing Otedola.

A source, who was privy to the details of the testimonies, said, “He told the committee that he took money to expose Otedola, as different from a bribe. “In the statement he issued, where he admitted taking the money, he drew the attention of the committee to the fact that he was careful with his choice of words.

“Bribe was not mentioned in the statement, but money. Money he took to expose Otedola,” the source said.

Lawan reportedly tendered text messages and call logs to the panel as evidence that he did not initiate the transaction between Otedola and himself. “From what he tendered, it seemed the transaction was not initiated by him. So, what the committee has decided to do is to confront the other parties to the case with the information Lawan has divulged”, the source, who pleaded anonymity, added.

Asked whether Lawan was in possession of the $620,000, the source said he replied that “a lot more information will be made available as the police and other agencies continu with their investigations. The truth is there.”

The source explained that because of the sensitive nature of the investigation, the committee later reasoned that it was not wise to make the inquiry public. “Lawan has information and documents; he has text messages; he has call logs and other evidence. The committee didn’t want other witnesses to take advantage of a public appearance and work on their own testimonies.

“The committee wants to throw Lawan’s claims on other witnesses to see how they will respond. In that way, some conflicting information may come to the fore. The other witnesses too will be heard in camera and will be accorded the same protection as Lawan”, the source stated.

Lawan was discharged after four hours of meeting with the panel. According to the source, the committee resolved to invite him again if the testimonies of other witnesses punctured his claims “or if there is the need to hear from him again.”
Lawan had appeared before the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges on Thursday. The committee, which is investigating the $620,000 bribery allegation, is headed by Mr. Gambo Musa.

Nigerian Pastor Runs Mad While Praying For A Mad Man

Scene of the mad man and the pastor, at Oke-Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Nigerians living around the Oke-Ado area of Ibadan, Oyo State, as well as shop owners and automobile dealers along Molete road in the town, on Thursday, watched a sad drama involving a pastor in the area and a mad man.

The pastor, whose name was giving as Timothy, according to an eyewitness, got to Ososami junctions of Oke-Ado around 5.20 p.m and went to meet the mentally-deranged man, popularly known as Tunde, who was sitting in front of a building in the area.
According to Semiu, a shop owner around the spot of the incident, the pastor began to read the Bible on sighting the mad man, while he moved closer to him and laid hand on his head. “At a point, there was a hot argument between the duo, which made the pastor to raise his voice as he was offering a deliverance prayer for Tunde, the mad man. The hot prayer lasted for over 15 minutes before another strange drama began,” Semiu said.

Speaking further, another witness, an okada rider, said at a point, the mad man removed the pastor’s hand from his head, adding that “suddenly, a strange spirit got hold of the pastor and he began to remove his cloth. He was naked and laid flat on the ground, speaking a strange language, with foam oozing out of his mouth.”

The mad man, it was gathered, initially left him in this position and sat at some distance away from the pastor, before the duo later sat closer to each other, while onlookers watched the strange drama. As at Thursday night, Pastor Timothy remained in the state of insanity.

Conversation With Henry Okah By Sabella Ogbobode Abidde

In this interview by SABELLA Abidde who interview HENRY OKAH in which he talked about his struggle and his ancarceration by the Nigerai and South Africa government
Henry Okah

Long before the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) selected a group of eminent Nigerians to represent its interest in an anticipated negotiation with the late Yar’Adua’s administration in 2009; I had penned a series of essays articulating what the problems were, and what the solution should be.  Frankly, I never asked why I was chosen, but my suspicion was that my public commentaries brought me to the attention of the justice-seeking group.
MEND named the negotiating group The Aaron Team and it consisted of former Chief of General Staff, Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe (rtd), Professor Wole Soyinka, Major General Luke Kakadu Aprezi (rtd), Mr. Amagbe Kentebe, and me.  A couple of days after the team was formed; a channel of communication was opened, for the first time, between Mr. Henry Okah and me. And even though the team is now moribund, Mr. Okah and I have kept in touch.
In the past, I had suggested the idea of a formal biography. But he declined. Recently, however, I suggested conducting an interview. After weeks of hesitation, he finally agreed. Over the years, I have come to notice that (a) this is a man who hates undue publicity; (b) has unwavering commitment to fighting the injustices and environmental deficiencies that pervades the Niger Delta; (c) has no regard for his oppressors; (d) was willing to pay the price for whatever he believed to be a just and noble cause; and (e) has a universal understanding of what is right, fair, and humane.
What follows is the conversation -- as opposed to a formal interview -- that took place over a couple of weeks. As you read this, please keep two admonitions in mind. The former is by Lillian Hellman, and the latter is by Elie Wiesel: “Since when do we have to agree with people to defend them from injustice?”; and “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” Please read on.
It must be really hard on you and on your family (wife and children) since your arrest and detention in October 2010. How are you all coping?
Things are not as bad as they appear. My wife is a strong woman who has long understood what I am fighting for and the possible consequences of fighting for justice in such a lawless continent as Africa. My kids are also taking this relatively well and believe like me that all this will someday come to an end. For me, my incarceration has presented the opportunity for a holiday I thought I could not afford to take. Besides missing my family, I am very well.
How is your health, and is the South African government treating you well? Is the prison condition humane? Are your fundamental human rights being violated?

I have a lower back injury which the South African authorities have still not adequately attended to; otherwise, I am in good health. My rights were violated from the moment the South African government started interfering in this case at the behest of President Jonathan hours after the bombing of October 1, 2010.
The South African government went as far as knowingly presenting forged and fabricated “evidence” to prevent my release on bail at my initial bail application. My lawyers are presently consulting with constitutional attorneys with the aim to challenging this illegality at the constitutional court of South Africa, the law which enabled my bail denial based on the fabricated evidence presented at that hearing.
What’s your background in terms of your date and place of birth, your parents, siblings, education, hobbies and passion?
I was born at the military hospital in Yaba, Lagos, attended St. Gregory’s College and Federal Government College Lagos. I am also a graduate of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria. Most of my life has been spent in Lagos. I am resolute in doing what I know to be right. Fighting the cause of my people is now my only passion.
Long before the world knew who you were what was your career or occupation?
I have lived and cherished a peaceful and obscure life engaging in various legitimate business ventures to cater for my responsibilities to my family.
Could you please give us an insight into your childhood? Were you a happy and outgoing kid or where you shy and introverted?
I am naturally reserved -- preferring music and the company of my friends. By choice I can stay indoors for months at a time which is what has made incarceration manageable.
As child or as a teenager, who were your heroes? And what was so special about them?
Without a doubt, it is David in the holy bible. His story taught me that no man or government is too great to be confronted and defeated with the help of God.

How would you describe yourself?  What are the misconceptions people generally have of you?

It is difficult to alter people’s misconceptions of me and I have no intention of trying. I am subject to my conscience and believe with time, those who have judged me based on the negative publicity generated in the Nigerian media by the Nigerian government, will see me in a different light. Truth is light which cannot remain hidden forever. I am regularly amused by negative claims in the media made by government sponsored hoodlums who pretend to have had a relationship of some sort with me.
At what point or at what age did you decide you were going to be an activist, a justice-seeker?
All my life, I have been unable to stomach any form of injustice directed against myself or anyone else.
What was it about the Niger Delta that made you angry? Was it the poverty, the terrible environmental conditions, the rate of youth unemployment, or the lack of development and other social dislocations?
Everything! Everything! But most of all, the arrogance of the oil companies operating in the Niger delta. These oil companies are on our land against our will, daily draining our resources and destroying our ecology, believing we were helpless due to the protection provided to them by the Nigerian military.
Oil companies in the delta are no longer as cocky as they now realize that their continued existence in the Niger delta can only be guaranteed by the people of that region. One can say that militancy in the Niger delta has restored the pride and dignity of the people of the delta.
The next phase of armed struggle which appears inevitable will reclaim the land of the Niger delta.
When the late President Yar’Adua offered the general amnesty, did you accept it? Did you sign official documents saying so?
With President Yar’Adua’s offer of amnesty, there was a standard form signed by all who accepted the government’s offer of amnesty. This form renounced militancy, armed agitation and was supported by other conditions laid out by the government for fighters to be assimilated into the ensuing demobilization program.
I refused to sign this form and rejected all conditions attached to it by the Nigerian government. I merely accepted to be released to assist in dialogue towards a just resolution of the crisis in the Niger delta. My position was acceptable to President Yar’Adua.
What’s your view of President Yar’Adua? What type of a man was he? Did you both get along?
It is my opinion that President Yar’Adua was a kind man with good intentions for Nigeria. His untimely death diminished the possibility of a lasting resolution of the Niger delta crisis.
Like many people, President Yar’Adua may have misunderstood me initially. But our meetings helped him understand me and vice versa.
What are the personal promises he (Yar’Adua) made to you? For instance, did he offer you money and contracts and oil blocs?  Did you accept? If yes, why and can you quantify them; if no, why not?
All meetings with President Yar’Adua were discussions towards finding a just solution to the never ending circle of violence in the Niger delta. He promised to do all in his power to justly address the concerns of the people of the Niger delta and he was doing just that before his death.
What were the promises he made vis-à-vis the Niger Delta struggle? And did you think he was going to keep to his promises?
President Yar’Adua explained the complications involved in repealing legislations which robbed the people of the Niger delta of their land and promised measures to alleviate the suffering of the Niger Delta people and policies intended to promote participation of Niger Delta communities in the oil industry. President Yar’Adua never ruled out the possibility of national dialogue aimed at restoring the stolen lands of the people of the Niger Delta and other parts of Nigeria. His death prevented his sincerity from being tested.
It’s been three years or so since the general amnesty was offered. What’s your assessment of it? My understanding is that thousands of youths are being sent abroad for training.
President Jonathan’s demobilization program has no direction and is a massive fraud on Nigerians in several ways. Firstly, he is promising the country peace in the Niger delta without addressing the underlying factors responsible for militancy. Secondly, those benefiting from President Jonathan’s misuse of public funds were not involved in the armed struggle.
Virtually all fighters who partook in the attacks subsiding in 2009 are in the cities of the Niger Delta or re-armed and in the creeks, so who is Jonathan’s government training in universities abroad?
Presently there are ten times more camps than existed in 2009 and a steady influx of weapons into the creeks and cities of the region. Nigerians should wait a few months or one year at the most to test President Jonathan’s boast to having achieved an enduring peace in the Niger Delta.
The military avoids explaining to Nigerians that “bunkering” is facilitated by well-armed militia groups which have taken over territories previously occupied by those commanders now hiding in Abuja. If these ex-commanders had any sort of control over their former territories there would be no need for security contracts or the re-equipping and strengthening of the JTF. Piracy, abductions for ransom, hijacking of vessels carrying refined products and criminality is on the rise. Oil industry vessels and trawlers now pay toll daily to traverse the territories of new commanders and it is only a matter of time before the delta re-erupts.
How did you feel after the untimely death of President Yar’Adua? After his passing, did you reach out to his family?
I had no direct access to Mr. Yar’Adua’s family but extended my sympathy to them through a few of his close aides who I met on my earlier visits to Aso Rock.
Upon the death of President Yar’Adua, I sensed that the Niger Delta and Nigerians were in big trouble. President Jonathan, though from the region, to this day does not understand the problems of the people and how to solve them? Goodluck Jonathan has adopted tactics employed by President Obasanjo such as bribing a few people; arresting dissenters and suppressing the media and news from the Niger Delta to create the illusion of peace in the region.
These short term measures are intended to mislead Nigerians long enough for President Jonathan to complete a term in office if possible. All his policies relating to the Niger Delta do not, in any way, address the root cause of agitation; but rather reward violence and those engaged in violence as a means to seeking justice in the delta.
If President Jonathan survives a full term in office, he will be bequeathing to his successor, a worse Niger Delta than he inherited.
What, in your opinion, are the fundamental differences between Yar’Adua and Jonathan?
I did not know President Yar’Adua well enough to compare him with Jonathan. I however believe him (Yar’Adua) to have been sincere in his intentions for Nigeria. Goodluck Jonathan on the other hand I know to be lacking in initiative. He is indecisive, vindictive and sometimes petty. President Jonathan relies heavily on gossip in making major policy decisions and is unable to form an independent, unsentimental and unbiased opinion on any serious matter.
Several media houses, at home and abroad, have reported that you are a member and also the leader of MEND. Are you a member of MEND, and are you its leader?
Labeling me the leader of MEND is a gross misrepresentation of my contribution to our struggle. If I am the leader of any one group how will I be able to get the ears of a rival group?
It suits the Nigerian government to brand me as the leader of MEND whilst trying to imprison me in South Africa. In the same breath, they present people to the local and international media as leaders of the same group when claiming to be in good relations with all armed agitators in the region. As I have maintained, I am respected by a great majority of true fighters in the Niger Delta -- not the politicians paraded as fighters by President Jonathan. I can with little effort access every weapon bearing individual in the Delta due to the respect they have for my continued contribution to the fight for justice in our land.
Fighters in the Niger Delta should be proud of their achievements so far and should never be deceived into believing that attacks on invaders and military occupiers amount to terrorism. No! In light of recent bombings of communities in the Delta and other unprovoked attacks by the Nigerian military, communities and militia groups are wisely preparing better for the foreseeable confrontation with the Nigerian military and oil companies.
Are you responsible for the Independence Day Bombings in Abuja? If not, then, who or what groups do you suppose is responsible for the bombings?
This question should be directed at President Jonathan. He has repeatedly claimed to know those responsible for the Abuja bombings and their reasons for carrying out the bombings of October 1, 2010. Remember President Jonathan also publicly exonerated me of complicity in these attacks. My lawyers hope to obtain a statement from President Jonathan to be used during my trial proper. He may have immunity in Nigerian courts but must defend himself here. If President Zuma can appear in court in South Africa, so can President Jonathan or at least he can provide a notarized statement to be used in my trial.
You’ve said elsewhere that the charges against you (by the Nigerian Government) were all false: made up charges. Why would the Jonathan government want to frame and destroy you? What would he and his government gain by so doing?
Goodluck Jonathan is fearful of being exposed by me, in many ways and believes it safe to keep me locked up far away from home. Though the South African government is acting as a henchman of Goodluck Jonathan, South African courts are not Nigerian courts and I am not James Ibori. I am confident I will be freed eventually.
One of those on trial in Nigeria, Edmund Ebiware was arrested on October 2, 2010 at the Bolingo Hotel by the SSS for failing to provide them with information which they hoped would have prevented the bombings of October 1, 2010. This young man (Ebiware) had for sometimes been supplying false intelligence on me to the SSS for a fee even though I have never met him. This practice which is common and usually requires the connivance of an insider in the security services is termed “networking.”  He had also claimed to the director general of the SSS to be close to MEND.
Upon his arrest the SSS discovered in his car, documents incriminating President   Goodluck Jonathan and his wife Patience in numerous financial crimes including money laundering to England, the same crime for which James Ibori is now imprisoned. The SSS concluded that I provided him with these documents to pass on to General Babangida. They arrived at this conclusion based on Ebiware’s earlier claims to be close to me and the presence of Mr. Dokpesi’s cell phone number on Ebiware’s phone.
The SSS immediately decided to arrest Mr. Dokpesi in the hope that these still available and very incriminating documents would be retrieved if Mr. Dokpesi had by chance taken delivery of a copy. The government then proceeded swiftly to blame the bombings on General Babangida. The original intention of the government was to blame these bombings on General Buhari and Babangida in an effort to prevent Northern participation in the last elections.
Edmund Ebiware’s upcoming trial will reveal these details which may not be published by the Nigerian media for obvious reasons. The Nigerian media is under sustained attack from the government of President Goodluck Jonathan. Media houses are bribed or threatened. The Nigerian government has squandered colossal sums on individuals paid to insert positive comments about President Jonathan, daily on internet sites.
At one of the court sittings in Nigeria, Edmund Ebiware, disregarding the presence of the judge in an outburst recorded by Channels TV and other media houses, told of being offered a house in Gwarimpa and money to falsely testify to meeting me in a bar at the Sheraton hotel Abuja to discuss the bombings. He refused this offer and this has led to his perpetual incarceration. According to Ebiware the SSS informed him that they had done same for Sgt Rogers to testify falsely against Major Hamza Al-Mustapha. After this outburst, the SSS threatened in court to shut down Channels TV if they dared to air that video without muting the audio. Channels TV aired the video in question, muting Ebiware’s utterances.
In a sane society, the fact that Sgt Rogers was paid by the state to give testimony is sufficient grounds for Rogers’ contribution to have been disregarded by the courts with all testimony from this witness expunged from the records of the court proceedings.
President Jonathan is afraid that I will expose to the world that he does not have the support of even one fighter from the Niger Delta. All the talk of bloodshed if President Jonathan is removed from office is cheap propaganda. Not one shot will be fired in the creeks of the Delta if for instance, President Jonathan is impeached. I am however averse to his removal by military coup.
All so called activists in Nigeria should be ashamed of themselves for celebrating the conviction of James Ibori without demanding the heads of Obasanjo, Jonathan, his wife Patience and others like them who are also guilty of the same crimes for which James Ibori is imprisoned. Though James Ibori is in prison where he deserves to be, his trial and imprisonment were politically motivated and the use of foreign governments and courts for political leverage in Nigeria should be decried by one and all.
Going back to the issue of the Nigerian governments attempt to frame me; I must confess, I was shocked at the poor quality of the forgeries presented to South African prosecutors by the Nigerian intelligence services.
All the “evidence” provided by Nigeria are an embarrassment to Nigeria as a whole and as much as these forgeries negatively affected me. As a Nigerian, I was greatly embarrassed by the poor quality of forgeries my country could muster to bolster its case against me. My lawyers and I expected to be confronted with better quality forgeries.
In one instance the name of one advertised victim Tahir Zakari Biu is conspicuously absent from the states indictment and all records from Nigeria. This, as the EFCC publicly paid compensation to the family of this man in a well-advertised ceremony. This shows a lack of coordination between individuals involved in preparing the forgeries.
After the recent release of my affidavits in the Nigerian media, the government could not even pretend to question anyone I mentioned in that affidavit. Proof that the government of President Jonathan is well aware of all I alleged. On its part, the South African government has still not had the decency to feign an arrest of the alleged bomber Ben Jesse to whom they claim I made 1126 calls ordering the bombing of 1 October, 2010.
What’s your relationship with people like Oronto Douglas, Tony Uranta, Asari Dokubo, Deziani Madueke, and Edwin Clark?
It will be inappropriate for me to speak about individuals I barely know. I have never physically met Mrs. Madueke. After my release in 2009, I met with Chief Clark once, for one hour and Timi Alaibe on three very brief occasions, also after my release in 2009. Tony Uranta and Dokubo Asari I have met not more than six times in all my life. Uranta I met for the first time in 2009 after my release and Asari I have had no contact with since 2005. As a rule I avoid noisy and aggressive people incapable of contributing to my intellectual wellbeing. Oronto Douglas I started relating with after his appointment as an adviser to the Nigerian president. He seems like a good person.
Regarding threats made by some of these individuals in favor of President Jonathan, firstly I advise Nigerians to find amusement in the unguarded utterances of Chief Clark. Every other threat coming out of the Niger Delta is also sponsored empty talk unsupported by facts on the ground. Together, these advocates of “Goodluck for President” do not control more than 300 people. This number includes members of their families, some Niger Delta governors and commissioners. Every other voice is a rented voice.
There are those who believe that you hate President Jonathan, and that he in turn despises you. Could this be true?
I do not hate President Jonathan. Rather, I pity him for accepting a job he is incapable of handling. By so doing, he has exposed himself to the world and is now a source of embarrassment to the entire nation. President Jonathan fails to understand that his personal love for power must not override the common good of the nation. Even though he is clearly incompetent, he expects to be supported by everyone from the Niger Delta.
Those from the delta who openly proclaim support for Goodluck Jonathan are mostly parasites who like leeches, will not survive without a host. His supporters cannot give one sensible reason why he should remain as president.
I have persisted in the fight for justice through the regimes of Obasanjo and Yar’Adua and feel insulted to know that President Jonathan expected everyone to halt all agitation because he is from the Niger delta.
He has done nothing for the Niger Delta since assuming office and is incapable of effecting any meaningful changes in that region or in Nigeria.
President Jonathan despising me is of no relevance to me or my quest for justice and I have therefore not given this possibility any thought. If the serious issues affecting the Niger Delta remain unresolved, I will continue agitating after Goodluck Jonathan’s exit from office.
Back to the Niger Delta Crisis: what can be done to bring the struggle to an end? In other words, what should the multinational oil companies and the Nigerian government do, if peace and tranquility is to reign in that part of the country?
Multi-national oil companies in Nigeria are businesses whose sole aim in investing in Africa is outrageous profits for their home governments and investors. Corruption has prevented successive Nigerian government from acting to check the irresponsible and criminal activities of oil companies operating in the region. It is pointless to advice a government which claims to have successfully resolved the crisis in the Niger Delta. President Jonathan’s government is in denial otherwise, the solution to the crisis is not out of reach. One thing I can say without any hesitation is that the government of President Jonathan is squandering a golden opportunity to address and end the crisis in the Niger Delta.
A decade or so from now, would we still be talking and fighting about the Niger Delta? What are your hopes and fear regarding the oil-producing communities?
It is unreasonable to expect such a serious problem to simply fade away without a fair resolution, the unrest in that region will persist for as long as it produces oil.
Some Niger Deltans have mentioned to me the possibility of secession. Are you in favor of splitting the country? Would the Ijaw, for instance, be better off with their own separate country?
I do not think Nigeria can break up without fragmenting. In my opinion, Nigeria requires greater autonomy for its component states and a much weaker, administrative central government. A drastic amendment modernizing the Nigerian constitution will also be helpful. The practice of true federalism in Nigeria will assist in ensuring all states in the federation do not groan simultaneously under the weight of an inept president as is currently the case.
Once bail is granted -- and assuming you are acquitted by the South African court -- what does the future hold for you? Would you want to remain in South Africa, or you’d rather return home to Nigeria?
I leave my future for God to decide. If Nigeria had responsible leaders, I doubt that any Nigerian would wish to live in South Africa. The South African government and a majority of its citizens have no respect for Nigerians who are regularly harassed, intimidated and murdered by the South African police without consequence.
The South African government’s maltreatment of me is a clear example of the mindset of the typical South African in relation to Nigerians. South Africans who claim to have fought a war against injustice are now like their former oppressors in just eighteen years. Government abuse of power using the police, tax man and other agencies of state, is rife.
Contrary to reports in the Nigerian media, I never applied for political asylum in South Africa. My lawyer only mentioned to the magistrate at my previous bail hearing that I had that option if my residency status was in dispute. Like all allegations leveled against me, the South African government is unable to support its laughable allegations that I fraudulently obtained residency papers. I am from a potentially prosperous country and will return to my country at the right moment.
If my presence in South Africa was disconcerting to the South African government, those sentiments should have been quietly and politely conveyed to me and would have gladly left this country.
Since my arrest in 2010, the South African government has severally tried to bully and intimidate me using the correctional services, immigration police and tax man. So far, I have found all these attempts, hilarious.

I learnt from reliable sources in the Nigerian government that the real reason for Vice President Sambo’s visit to South Africa was to apologize for the embarrassment caused the South African President and government by the forged “evidence” provided by the state security services of Nigeria and plead for the South African government’s continued interference.
The South African government is still dodging from appearing in court to substantiate all the forgeries they have presented in court so far. They will have to do that sooner or later. I hope to be in court for bail not later than July 30, 2012 and will release all documents, transcripts, and affidavits to the media for the consumption of all Nigerians.
In the rape trial of former IMF chief, Dominic Strauss Kahn, prosecutors immediately dropped charges when it was discovered that the alleged victim had told a number of lies. Here in South Africa it is different. State witnesses under cross examination sometimes confess to being bribed by the state to lie.
Many Nigerians wish to know why you waited this long to make such serious allegations against President Jonathan and the governments of South Africa and Nigeria.
Patience is one of my virtues. I had to wait until I was provided all evidence the South African government intended to rely upon in the upcoming trial before responding to the Nigerian government’s fatuous allegations against me. Knowing that all the evidence provided by the South African prosecutors at my previous bail hearing was false, I had assembled a team of seasoned computer forensic investigators in anticipation of the South African government’s fabrication of evidence to support their ludicrous claims. Fortunately for the South African government, these forgeries have not yet been produced.
I assume that the prosecutor in my case may attempt to water down the negative effects of all the forged “evidence” he has produced thus far by furnishing the court at my next bail application, with fresh forgeries generated nearly 2years after my arrest.
At my previous bail application, the prosecutor claimed to find evidence in my wife’s and children’s phones and a brand new and unused laptop purchased a day before it was confiscated. The Nigerian and South African governments will be exposed and shamed at my next bail application. The reason proffered by the spokesman to President Jonathan for the Nigerian government’s silence in the face of my very serious allegations, is preposterous. The national prosecuting authority in South Africa has a loud mouthed spokesperson who never shies away from speaking about any case before the South African courts. Upon realizing that all their evidence is forged, this gentleman has suddenly lost his voice on issues concerning me. I will produce documents and text messages substantiating my claims in court at my bail hearing and later to the Nigerian media.
The offhand dismissal of my claims shortly after the bombings of October 1 2010 by the erstwhile spokesperson for President Jonathan was on the assumption that the South African government was in possession of the phone to which all the text messages I intend to produce in court were sent. The Nigerian government has since learnt that the South African government is not in possession of this phone.
In its typically short sighted approach to serious issues, the government of President Jonathan believes it sufficient for the South African government to hold me until Mr. Jonathan completes his tenure in office. The Nigerian president is “making plans with money held in someone else’s bank account.” Goodluck Jonathan has personalized the assault on me by attacking members of my family as well.
I hope President Jonathan and his cronies will realize that they will not hold their offices forever and will soon walk around like every ordinary Nigerian. When that time comes, they will not have the resources of the state to fight their battles.
It is now obvious to me that here in South Africa I am dealing with some people whose consciences and senses of shame have been eroded by whatever benefits they are deriving from Goodluck Jonathan. Regardless of whatever promises the South African government has made to President Goodluck Jonathan, I will not be denied bail for much longer. If for any strange reason I am again denied bail, I will remain unfazed. The struggle continues!
Epilogue:
Not long after the conversation ended, I received word that the University of Witwatersrand’s Justice Project and other Human Rights groups in South Africa will be sending observers to monitor Mr. Okah’s upcoming bail hearing and trial.  In addition his lawyers are considering using text message correspondence extracted from his phones between himself and past/present governors of the Niger Delta as well as serving ministers in the current administration.
