The Presidency has lambasted the embattled Chairman of the House of Reps Ad-hoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy, Farouk Lawan, for demanding and collection bribe in the course of his duty.
Briefing journalists in Abuja on Friday, Special Adviser to the
President on Political Matters, Ahmed Ali Gulak, noted that the House of
Representatives had conducted its probe on the fuel subsidy regime and
forwarded the report to the executive, saying the president has directed
the relevant agencies to look at the document.
it was gathered that Gulak lambasted Farouk for his greed, saying “the head of the ad-hoc committee (Farouk Lawan) compromised himself by demanding and receiving bribe to the tune of $620,000...it is in the public domain and there was confession to that effect.”
Gulak also condemned move by some interested parties in the matter to accuse the presidency for the entrapment of Farouk in the bribery saga. “It is sad because the president has nothing to do with the House of Representatives and it is not in the habit of Mr. President to interfere in what goes on at the National Assembly," Gulak said.
