The biggest cement factory in
sub-Saharan Africa has been opened in Nigeria by Africa's richest man,
Aliko Dangote. President Goodluck Jonathan called the plant a "quantum
leap" for Nigeria's cement sector. While commissioning the Third Phase
of the 5.25. Million Metric Tonnes and the ground breaking ceremony for
the 3.0
MMTPA phase 4 of the cement factory
in Obajana, Kogi state, President Jonathan posited that Aliko Dangote’s
entrepreneur spirit has justified the award of GCON bestowed on him by
his administration adding that Dangote has contributed to the country
more than any of the other recipients of the award
The Obajana plant is expected to
produce about 10 million tonnes of cement a year. It is one of the
country's biggest investments outside the oil sector in recent years.
